Letting the Spirit Lead in Utah

There are moments when God invites someone to step beyond what’s comfortable. For Dyrell, that invitation looked like a trip across the country—and a deep desire to be led by the Holy Spirit.

“I took this step of faith to get outside my comfort zone,” Dyrell shares. “It was an opportunity to truly let the Holy Spirit lead me, which is something I had been praying about.”

That prayer turned into action in West Valley and Magna, Utah—communities where Valley Light Church is working to build relationships and share the gospel. During the trip, the mission team came alongside the church to help with outreach, encouragement, and community connection. Though much of the fruit may not be seen right away, the experience left a lasting impression.

“It impacted the community, but it also impacted Valley Light Church,” Dyrell says. “Getting a chance to meet people who are searching for truth and share the true gospel with them will have a long-term impact. But the immediate impact? It was the smiles and excitement from the church members as we came alongside them to help for the week. That’s something I won’t forget.”

One of the clearest moments of ministry came during West Fest, a local event that created space for gospel conversations, new friendships, and meaningful presence in the community.

“West Fest is where I saw God work the most,” Dyrell says. “The conversations, the connections with vendors and people just attending—it all showed how the Lord went ahead of us. He prepared hearts and minds before we ever got there. He even helped grow our group through it.”

God’s work wasn’t limited to outreach. Growth happened inside the team as well. Vulnerability, courage, and personal reflection became part of the story.

“My faith grew from seeing the vulnerability in our group and from being emboldened to share the gospel,” Dyrell says. “But also from seeing where I fall short. I won’t do everything perfectly—but Jesus already did. So I trust that He did.”

To anyone sensing a call to missions but feeling unsure, Dyrell offers a clear and honest encouragement: pray, prepare, and trust.

“Ask the Lord for guidance in making a decision like this,” he says. “It’s an undertaking that requires preparation, patience, and endurance. Fun will be had, yes—but the glory of God and His kingdom come first.”

And he offers this reminder to anyone on the edge of saying yes: “You have a whole community behind you. More importantly, you have a loving Creator who goes ahead of you and guides you as well.”
